Estimated at over 150 million
years old the cave was known about by the islanders for over a hundred years
before it was opened to the public in 1963. The 1953 earthquakes
caused a section of the rook to cave in. A downhill
corridor leads to a natural balcony overlooking a chamber of about 100
square meters of floor space. It houses rare stalactimites and stalactites
and the accoustic qualities in the main chamber are quite spectacular. Concerts
have been held here with up to 500 people attending. |
